On May 3, 2012, the New York Chapter of CoreNet Global’s Young Leaders partnered with and hosted young adults from Opportunities for a Better Tomorrow (OBT), a non-profit organization focused on helping disadvantaged young adults through job training, academic reinforcement, improved life skills, job placement and support services.

Our members, Sarah Currie as Moderator, Jason Aster of KBA Lease Services, Stephen Bellwood of Cassidy Turley, Alex Meinhold of Jefferies & Co. and Ambar Margarida of Spacesmith LLP, spoke on their careers, including how they started, how they set their goals and general advice for the young adults.

Young Leader members were then paired with young adults from OBT for one-on-one resume review and breakout sessions, where they received personal attention and advice from our members.  The group concluded the evening with networking and refreshments offered by our gracious host, Ashley Rigby of Herman Miller.

The outlook for sustainability and an overview of its latest initiatives received front and center attention recently from CoreNet Global’s New York City Chapter and three other leading organizations, at an event dubbed “4 Corners of a Sustainable New York,” held at Silverstein Properties’ 7 World Trade Center. Participating with CoreNet NYC were the Urban Land Institute New York; the International Facility Management Institute (IFMA), New York City; and Urban Green. Nearly 700 top-echelon corporate real estate executives and service providers, together with members of the press, celebrated the city’s vibrance at the 2012 CoreNet Global NYC Chapter Annual Dinner at the Museum of Natural History on March 7.  Guests networked and dined on fabulous cuisine amidst The Rose Center for Earth and Science in the Cullman Hall of the Universe and at the Milstein Hall of Ocean Life. The event also featured a congratulatory message from Mayor Bloomberg, who recognized the contributions of the corporate real estate community to the city.

The weather outside was cold, but inside, the atmosphere was heating up festively at CoreNet Global NYC’s annual holiday party.  Over 235 commercial real estate executives and service providers gathered at The Top of the Rock on January 5 to celebrate the New Year, network with colleagues and meet new friends.   The beautiful venue, with its breathtaking views of the Big Apple in every direction, served as the perfect place for CoreNet’s members to socialize and have fun – a top spot for those at the top of the real estate business.
